White Fragility: Understanding & Working Against White Privilege

The Public Affairs Alliance for Communities of Color (PAACC) is an award-winning, student-led organization at the LBJ School of Public Affairs that facilitates educational workshops and academic panels to engage faculty, staff, and students on issues of social justice to promote greater diversity and inclusion at UT.

We are hosting renowned social justice educator Dr. Robin DiAngelo to facilitate a free workshop entitled "White Fragility: Understanding and Combatting White Privilege."  This workshop will directly enhance current LBJ and greater UT efforts to promote diversity and inclusion on campus. Dr. DiAngelo coined the phrase “white fragility,” which provides an academic framework on why white people experience a state of race-based stress in conversations about race. She is currently a Lecturer at the University of Washington and serves as the Director of Equity for Sound Generations in Seattle, Washington.

In offering this workshop free of cost, we hope to give faculty, staff and students across campus the opportunity to better recognize the impact of their personal biases, which will then enrich their academic experiences and conversations. Dr. DiAngelo’s anti-racism workshops provide a rare educational opportunity for LBJ students and others to learn from a leading critical race expert about how to engage in a productive dialogue regarding race and social justice.

The workshop will be on Saturday Nov. 11 from 1pm-4pm in the Texas Union Theater. If you are interested in participating in the workshop, you may RSVP here: https://goo.gl/t6Qwtb
